I can hardly believe it’s been a year since I photographed Jessica as a newborn. Now already One whole year old, she’s blossomed into a gorgeous little girl. Her hair has lightened, her eyes have become an even deeper shade of blue, and she has developed quite a sweet tooth having thoroughly rocked her cake smash session!
What is a Cake Smash Session?
The cake smash session is a trend that seems to have emanated from American shores, rather like the newborn session it has grown in popularity over here recently. With the advancement of sites like Pinterest available for sharing first birthday inspiration an increasing number of people want to celebrate their little one’s first birthday with a cake smash photoshoot.
How does a session work?
If you have the room and available light to accommodate my portable studio and lighting then we can carry out the cake smash session in the comfort of your own home. I have recyclable backdrops so mess isn’t an issue, but it is advisable that the session takes place in an area that is easy to clean in case the cake finds its way onto your floors/walls/ceilings!
We begin with a few classic portraits before unveiling the cake. Each session includes a bespoke designed cake from Lillyput Bakery, who I’ve worked with many a time and I can guarantee the smashabilility (and deliciousness) of their cakes!
Cake smash sessions are for children up to 3 years old. I have a selection of outfits and props that we can use – I tailor each session to your requirements so please get in touch to discuss your own cake smash session.
After a few investigatory pokes of the butter icing Jessica was confident enough to give it a little taste. Then it was full on cake drumming, before she crawled through the lot!
