I’ve very fond memories from my childhood when my Gramps would used to sit me and my sister atop of the huge round bales that would appear in the field behind my Grandparent’s house at the end of every summer. We’d play hide and seek among them, and he’d roll us along on them until we slid off and we’d both squeal with delight. Every time I see a hay bale I think of my lovely Gramps. After hearing the rolling stories my boys made me promise to do the same with them this year, but due to our dire summer as soon as a field was harvested all the bales disappeared to the safe and dry storage of the Farmer’s barn. After a very long search I finally located a field full of bales which also had a public footpath running through it – very important that you don’t just walk into private land, and I certainly didn’t do any rolling!
It was ‘Back to School’ this week for most school students in England. After three days and having sat down with him to do his very first homework assignment I think it’s fair to say that my eldest boy {who you may recognise featured as a Jedi in the Bluebells earlier this year} rather likes it in his new class and especially likes his new Teacher. This twinned with the hay bale season upon us gave me a fab idea for a shoot to document both recalling fond memories whilst making some more of my own. As you can see he sometimes lets me take a nice picture, but more regularly he will object vociferously. He wouldn’t let me tuck his shirt in or straighten his tie, and the scuffs on his shoes are model’s own. Luckily I managed to get some lovely shots in before he got too fed up, put his hand up and refused point blank to have any more photos done!
We’re fast approaching the time of year when nature is at its warmest colours and will make an ideal backdrop to any outdoor ‘on location’ photo session. If you’d like to book a photoshoot then please get in touch via my Main Website, or click on the contact tab at the top of the page.
